Nicholas Joseph Begich III is an American politician and businessman who has represented Alaska's at-large congressional district since 2025. A Republican, he previously ran for the seat in the 2022 special and regular elections before winning in 2024.
Begich was born in Anchorage, Alaska, into the prominent Begich political family. Though much of the family has historically been affiliated with Democrats, Begich built his own profile inside Alaska Republican politics. After his parents divorced, he moved to Florida with his maternal grandparents, graduating from The Master's Academy.
He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Baylor University and later an MBA from Indiana University Bloomington. In the private sector, Begich founded FarShore Partners, a software development company with significant operations based in India, and later helped manage related ventures including Dashfire.
Before Congress, Begich ran for the Anchorage City Council in 2016 and lost. He later held finance and advisory roles within Alaska Republican circles, including serving as a co-chair on Don Young's 2020 re-election campaign. His national profile rose during Alaska's first ranked-choice federal elections in 2022, when a fractured Republican vote contributed to Democratic Rep. Mary Peltola's victories.
In 2024, Begich defeated Peltola in a rematch and was sworn in on January 3, 2025. Early in his tenure, the House passed two of his bills with broad bipartisan support, and he has focused heavily on Alaska-specific energy, infrastructure, and resource policy.

Controversies
- Ranked-choice election dynamics in 2022 sparked ongoing debate about spoiler effects, strategic withdrawals, and whether outcomes reflected majority preference.
- Aggressive oil-and-gas policy posture, including pushing expanded leasing, has made him a frequent target of environmental groups and climate-focused critics.
- Critics argue his close ties to Alaska conservative networks and national groups increase partisan polarization in a historically idiosyncratic state electorate.
- Business background and overseas-focused software operations have drawn scrutiny from opponents over outsourcing and corporate governance narratives.
- As a member of a famous political family, he faces persistent claims of dynasty politics, even as he runs against the family's historical Democratic lineage.
